The Ōtaki and Porirua Trusts Board administers the Ōtaki and Porirua Trusts Board Scholarships, which aims to provide assistance for post primary education for boys and girls between the ages of 13 to 20 years inclusive.
The scholarship is open to British subjects of all races and inhabitants of the islands in the Pacific, with preference given to the boys and girls of the three iwi of Te Āti Awa ki Whakarongotai, Ngāti Raukawa ki te Tonga and Ngāti Toa Rangatira.
Selection considers the following:
- Demonstrated involvement with Marae, Hapū and Iwi of the three aforementioned Iwi
- Demonstrated strong interest in Māori culture and language
- Evidence of involvement in cultural and/or community and/or sporting activities
The Board will provide information on scholarships each year on its website and to the Te Āti Awa ki Whakarongotai, Ngāti Raukawa ki te Tonga and Ngāti Toa Rangatira hapū representatives for the Ōtaki and Porirua Trusts Board Scholarships.
2022 Scholarships
The Board is pleased to announce that 85 secondary school scholarships have been awarded to rangatahi from the three OPTB iwi: Raukawa ki te Tonga, Te Āti Awa ki Whakarongotai and Ngāti Toarangatira. All applications were applied for through the Māori Education Trust (MET) website and completed on-line. This new partnership has benefitted scholars as the MET has made a contribution to the value of the scholarship of more than $180. Each student will receive $655 towards their education.
The OPTB was pleased to reinstate the scholarships for 2022 and anticipate continuing with scholarships in 2023.
